CLEAN SPORT EDUCATION: DOPING

The European Judo Union is proud to present its newest initiative, Clean Sport Education: Doping, aimed at combating doping and medication abuse in sports. This comprehensive course underscores the importance of prevention, which goes beyond mere regulatory measures and emphasises fostering a deep-rooted internal stance against doping among athletes. The Importance of Inner Attitude in Doping Prevention

Doping prevention is not merely about adhering to rules and regulations set forth by
national anti-doping agencies and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It is
fundamentally a matter of cultivating an inner attitude that inherently rejects the use of
performance, enhancing drugs. This course posits that the core of effective prevention not only lies in one’s knowledge but in the ethical and moral compass of each athlete. By nurturing a strong sense of integrity and self-respect, athletes can resist the temptations and pressures that may lead them towards doping.

Supporting Informed Decision-Making

Clean Sports Education: Doping is designed to accompany athletes on their journey
towards making informed and autonomous decisions. Recognising that athletes often face
immense pressure from various sources, including their environment, the course provides
them with the tools and knowledge to navigate these challenges. This involves
understanding the broader implications of doping, not just for their health and career but
also for the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.

Comprehensive Approach Beyond Substance-Based Prevention

Unlike traditional doping prevention programs that focus primarily on the substances
themselves, the EJU’s course takes a holistic approach. It aims to instill a fundamentally
reflective attitude towards performance and performance enhancement. This involves:

  • Ethical Education: Encouraging athletes to reflect on the ethical dimensions of doping and the true meaning of competitive success.
  • Critical Thinking: Equipping athletes with the ability to critically analyze the arguments for and against doping, fostering a mindset that can discern and reject justifications for drug use.
  • Personal Development: Promoting the development of personal values and inner strength that empower athletes to stay clean even under pressure.

Nuno Delgado: Ambassador for Clean Sports

Nuno Delgado, Olympic medallist from Sydney 2000, serves as the ambassador for this
project. His personal journey and achievements stand as a testament to the power of
clean sportsmanship. Delgado’s involvement brings a real-world credibility and
inspirational figure to the forefront of the initiative, embodying the values and success that
the course aims to promote.
