Despite a packed international competition calendar, the Berlin “Millennium Team” Cadet European Cup 2025 attracted 751 judoka from 38 countries. The stacked competition saw experienced athletes go head-to-head with newcomers. Top seeds had a tough time living up to expectations at Sportforum Berlin, with only one of 14 managing to secure gold.

Italy’s Giorgia GRASSI once again impressed. After winning silver in Porec and gold in Teplice, she captured another title by defeating Alexandra GEOFFREY (FRA) in the -70kg final. Having moved up a weight class earlier this year, Grassi is steadily climbing the rankings and building momentum ahead of the European Cadet Championships in Skopje at the end of June.

For host nation Germany, all eyes were on their leading cadets. However, World Championship medallists Jolina REINHOLD and Konstantin DISTEL, along with European champion Maya TOSZEGI, fell short of gold. Their setbacks opened the door for emerging talents to shine and help lift Germany to the top of the medal table.

After reaching their first European Cup finals in Teplice, German athletes, Hannah GLAUNER and Elina DILGER went one better in Berlin. Glauner gave herself an early birthday present by capturing her first Cadet Tour gold medal in the -52kg final, defeating Fatima SUPYGALIYEVA (KAZ) on the ground. In the +70kg category, Dilger, who also competes in the -78kg category, overcame European and World medallist Kristyna KASPEROVA (CZE) in the semi-final and secured a quick win over Zuzana PODZEMNA (POL) in the final to be crowned Berlin Cadet European Cup champion. Adding to Germany’s success, national champion Samuel BISCHOFF captured a men‘s gold by defeating top seed Giorgi KARCHAIDZE (GEO) in the -90kg final, further boosting the host nation’s medal tally.

In the end, Germany topped the medal table with 3 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals, ahead of Türkiye and Kazakhstan — making it a successful weekend for the German Judo Federation.
