After winning her first Grand Slam medal in Dushanbe this month, Katarzyna SOBIERAJSKA (POL) has been on a roll! Not only did she take another medal in the Lu Nucia European Open, but has been contributing to team wins in the Spanish League!

It was a bit special, it had been a long time without a medal for me so it meant a lot to me to win it and stand on the podium again. I think my mentality has changed a lot and this is probably made the biggest difference, I think now I’m a better judoka because of it. I definitely feel more confident, but event with the Grand Slam medal, I think I would have felt the same competing in Spain, that was just a really, really great bonus!

Actually, the Grand Slam medal was my ‘qualification’ for the World Championships, so I feel a bit more free, I didn’t feel any pressure after it. Now I can just focus on the worlds, even if I didn’t take a medal in La Nucia, it’s okay because the goal is the big medal.

Without the pressure to perform in Spain, Sobierajska could enjoy each contest and fine tune her tactics and technique before she heads to the big stage in Hungary.

It has been really nice, I had some plans, some things I needed to do and it worked so I’m really happy about it. Now, I’m really excited to go Budapest, just a month ago this wasn’t happening!
